According to the Cambridge Dictionary, application letter is a letter that you write to a company when you are applying for a job. A job application letter is a letter written to a company when someone applies for a job.

Purpose of application letter

According to Colorado State University, its main objective is to get the applicant in the door for an interview and must be written well enough to attract the attention and interest of the person with the power to recommend or grant one.

The main purpose of the application letter is to give the applicant an opportunity for an interview, it must be written well enough to attract the attention and interest of the person authorized to recommend or grant it.

In short, an application letter can make the company interested in inviting us to the next stage of job recruitment, such as an interview test or a written test.

How to write an application letter

The following are tips for writing an application letter according to the British Council:

- Begin and end the letter appropriately. (Start and end the letter correctly).
For example, start with “Dear Mr./Mrs./Ms.” (with name) or “Dear Sir or Madam” (without name) and end with “Yours sincerely” or “Yours faithfully”.

- Give a clear reason for writing. (Give a clear reason for writing.)
For example, I am writing this with regard to… / to inquire about… / to apply for… / to express interest in….

- Use linking words to join similar ideas into paragraphs. (Use connecting words to link similar ideas into paragraphs.)

- Include a summary comment near the end of your letter. (Include a brief comment before ending the letter.)
For example, I hope you will find this information useful. (I hope this information was useful to you.)

- Close your letter with a set phrase. (Close the letter with a certain phrase.)
For example, I look forward to hearing from you. (I look forward to your reply.)
